CHORES ARCHIVES In our home, chores are part of being a member of the family, not something that everyone gets money to do. We made it clear from the start that being a team player in the whole household and family chore structure was just something everyone did at their level and when needed. My children chip in and tackle their chores without complaint or waiting to be paid in points or cash or whatever. Special tasks or projects might earn goodies, or a few dollars but not basic every day tasks. If everyone works together, then the whole family earns the privledges of free time and a well running home. When I treat them with helpfulness in doing their chores and the things that are import to them, they see that my model is one of eagerness, helpfulness and a willing spirit. Sometimes, I have to ask them for help and I do my very best to let them know just how thankful I am for their assistance. It helps children to understand that offering to eagerly help those around them that need a hand is rewarding even without the allure of allowance or a tip or treat and that they might have that kindness returned to them when they need a little helping hand in life!
