FAMILY ARCHIVES

Be sure to recognize and reward good behavior and a helpful spirit in your children. When you see them doing good, tell them! It's easy to forget, but a heartful pat on the back and "good job" really helps to build their self esteem and just plain feels good. Don't go overboard, but just remember to notice when your children are growing into the wonderful young adults you hoped for!

Set up a New Homeschooler Day at your local library. Ask if you can reserve a meeting room at your local library and put out a little flyer on the bullentin board or through your homechool group. Offer to be available for any afternoon to help new homeschool families. You might really help a family make the decision to homeschool, or to consider alternative schooling for their children. You can have some flyers from the local groups, or consider printing a few cards with the contact information on them to help out. Just an informal chat may help considerably and you might some wonderful new friends!

When you pump gas, take your trash out of the car. Most gas stations have a bin right there at the pump and if you get into the habit of it, your car will stay nice and tidy and it's something to take your mind off the high cost of the fuel!

We keep field trips, outings, meetings and lessons down to a reasonable level in our home! We found that too many errands and events in a week totally disrupts our family time and life.

We solved the problem by giving each member of the family a set number of outside events a week. We found that 3 each was plenty for the week. You might find a different number. With a limit, everyone still gets to do their activities, yet the car doesn't end up with 27,000 miles on it in a month and we still get to have family time together!

Try to limit the amount of health and beauty aids your family uses on a regular basis. You can't imagine how much money you spend on having seperate lotions and potions for everyone!

Most families have half a drug store in their bathrooms... and keeping track of who needs what and what has run out take a lot of energy and time. Try and find one or two good standards for everyone in the family! And then you can stock up when they are on sale and buy the larger, more economical brands, too!

If teenagers balk, have them start buying their own fancy "this and that" and watch how quickly they consider joining the pack!
