FOOD ARCHIVES Be sure to stop in your local supermarket and take advantage of the frozen turkeys on sale! I actually got two large turkeys for only 19 cents a pound!!! How can you go wrong with turkey? You can even have the meat shop cut it in half for you and make great food for your family! Submitted By: Sherri Visit her favorite site at: www.glasscityopry.com
If you're learning about the human body with your kids... how about finding and downloading a food diary and exercise log online and keeping track on your computer! So many of these programs are free and have many extras that show your kids the direct correlation between food, calories and exercise. My kids thought it was neat to watch all the stats change as the weeks moved on. We even created a fake person and fed them TOO much, and bad foods and it was very eye-opening when the programs showed how poorly that person was eating, etc. Great tool! Submitted By: Julie W. Visit her favorite site at: www.calorieking.com My passion is cooking and baking and my young kids sure know that for a fact. I am usually asking the kids to leave the kitchen so I can do my thing and I know they are disappointed when they can't help. They have been very interested in getting into the kitchen with me, so I thought I would encourage them to cook and bake if I started up a cool Homeschool Kid's Cooking Class in my home. We had lots of kids sign up and I prepare lots of fun, healthy foods (as well as a few sweet treats!). The kids are so excited and I am as well. They learn how to properly cook when I'm ready to really teach and explain things, instead of disappointing them when it's too busy in the evening and we're on a schedule. Submitted By: Debbie M. Visit her favorite site at: www.homeschooling.about.com Let your kids design and plan a menu for a family dinner. Give them the opportunity frequently to the chef, cook and bottle-washer of the family. We love to have kids help plan the menu and plot and plan for the days with their favorite dishes. I help them by narrowing down the menu to things that we can actually afford (ha ha) and once approved, the project is on. My kids learn so much from practical applied cooking and we have a fun family evening. We sometimes even come up with a theme such as Italian or Eskimo or even colors! It's always fun and creative and they're learning, too! Submitted By: Debbie M. Freeze half of the dough for quick cookies at another time and you'll save money on those expensive little chips by using only one bag at a time with the double batch!
